Penrith Shop
The Hospice at Home Shop in Little Dockray, Penrith was opened in August 2005.
The shop underwent a refurbishment in January 2010 with redecoration and improved fittings as well as a new floor. This work was carried out at minimum cost by our volunteers and the generosity of Cumbrian Homes and Story Painting Group Limited.
The shop is now entirely run by volunteers. At the moment we open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am until 4pm. We hope to increase the number of days we open, but this will depend on the number of extra volunteers we can recruit. If you think you can spare some time, either helping in the front of the shop or behind the scenes, please either pop into the shop or contact the Charity Director, Sheila Thompson, at the office.
We sell good quality items at very reasonable prices, and we are now gaining a reputation as an opportunity shop where designer and high street fashions are available at bargain prices.
We welcome donations, in good condition, of clothing, shoes, bric-a-brac, books, jewellery, fashion accessories, linen and home décor, CDs and DVDs. Anything unusual or that we think is of high value is appraised by an expert in the field to ensure it is valued at the right price. Rare items and in demand collectables are often offered for sale on Ebay, if we think that would be the most appropriate market.
We also sell hand-made and local greetings cards, plants in the summer and a selection of bird seed from The Birds’ Bistro, Penruddock.
We aim to recycle any items that cannot be sold, and the income from this makes a significant contribution to our shop’s income. Clothing that is not thought suitable for selling in the shop can still be donated, labelled as ‘RAGS’ on the bag and we will include this in our recycling programme. We accept and recycle ink cartridges and mobile phones.
We are unable to accept furniture, cots, high chairs, prams and pushchairs, bicycles, safety helmets, videos or cassettes, or ex car boot sale items. If you have a question about donating goods to the shop please contact the shop on 01768 868602 or the Fundraising Office on 01768 210719.
Please remember our Hospice at Home shop when you are clearing out or equally important come and see what you can buy in our sparkling new revamped shop…or do what they say in other continents “come and do a bit of opportunity shopping”!
