Tim Backshall cycles Coast to Coast in 2012 for Hospice at Home and invites men to join him on this challenge
Tim Backshall, local Journalist and TV presenter will be challenging himself to cycle the Coast to Coast route in aid of local Charity, Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland. He was approached by the Charity to join a group of men who will take part in this fundraiser and raise funds in 2012. He has always been keen to complete this challenge and when he realised that this was Hospice at Home’s special Fifteenth Anniversary year he decided this was the ideal opportunity. Tim invites men of all abilities to join him and unite on this inspirational challenge and raise funds for this vital, local Charity. This event will help Hospice at Home celebrate its 15th Anniversary year and will give individuals the test of conquering the C2C route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. The challenge will take place on the Bank Holiday Weekend of the 5—7th May 2012. This is an opportunity to experience the adventure of a lifetime and join a team of men of all ages and cycling experiences. Individuals will be grouped by ability, giving the opportunity to cycle at comfortable and manageable speeds. The adventure will begin when wheels are dipped in the Irish Sea at Whitehaven. The group will then follow the wonderful and well recognised route through the Northern Lake District and over the Pennines stopping off at refreshment venues en route to refuel. This is a challenge not to be under estimated, it’s 140 miles with some tough hills along the way. There will be jubilation as wheels are dipped in the North Sea at the finish line in Tynemouth where special medals and a glass of bubbly will be part of the celebrations. If you or group of friends, family or work colleagues are eager to join this special team to enjoy the camaraderie, through the good and bad times of hard hill climbs, and enjoy the relaxation of a glass of the gold nectar in the evening, then this could be for you. Julie Allen Charity Fundraiser said “We very much appreciate the support of Tim. He had heard of the astounding success of the ladies cycle challenge this year which raised over £51,000 and couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate this special year by joining us on this amazing event and experience. I encourage men to join us, to test themselves on this wonderful route and be part of this fundraiser. The experience I understand is never to be forgotten and whilst enduring the challenge they will be raising vital funds which will provide specialised end of life nursing care to local patients who choose to remain at home. Support is also given to their families and loved ones”. Registration fee is £100. This includes lunches and refreshments en route, accommodation and dinner on night two in Allenheads, cycle maintenance and support, and coach back up. Transport can also be provided for the return journey to Carlisle or Penrith, at an extra cost. Fundraising support, cycle support and fitness expertise will be available for participants during the months prior to the event also giving opportunities to meet your fellow cyclists. Arragons Cycles of Penrith are again supporting this event and the Charity thanks them for their vital expertise. Restricted numbers will be offered for this challenge so don’t miss out, call the Hospice at Home Fundraising office for an informational pack on 01768 210719 and make 2012 the year you challenge yourselves and also raise funds for local terminally ill patients.
