VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON 2020
GUARANTEED CHARITY PLACE
Thank you for your interest in running the Virgin London Marathon on 26 April 2020 for Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland.
We’re delighted to have our first ever guaranteed place in the London Marathon, one of the most iconic marathons in the world. By taking part and raising money for Hospice at Home you will help us to provide vital care for local patients within their home whilst supporting their families and carers.
We’ll support your marathon journey every step of the way – from the moment that you sign up, to when you cross the finishing line wearing your Hospice at Home running vest and medal with pride!
If you’re chosen as the successful applicant, you commit to fundraise a minimum sponsorship of £2,000 for Hospice at Home. We kindly ask that:
- You pay the £100 registration fee immediately (if you secure this special place)
- We must receive £250 sponsorship from you by Monday 28 October 2019 (after ballot results – these take place on 4 October 2019)
- We must receive an additional £1,000 sponsorship from you no later than Friday 10 January 2020
- We must receive the remaining £750 by Monday 11 May 2020

The London Marathon Ballot
If you’re applying for the Hospice at Home guaranteed space, we’d expect that you’ve also entered the public ballot (which is usually open in late April/early May). If you’re allocated a space through the ballot, we can then reallocate the Hospice at Home charity place to another supporter. You can continue to support us and raise funds, but we won’t need you to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship. Funds already donated will not be refundable. This is why our first fundraising deadline is after the ballot results have been announced.
IMPORTANT: If, having accepted a place, you sustain an injury and or are unable to meet the fundraising deadlines, please contact Hospice at Home Fundraising Team in writing as soon as possible. It is important that you do not take part in the Marathon unless you are completely fit to do so. You can then apply for the 2021 event. Funds already donated will be non-transferrable and non-refundable. You will be updated when 2021 applications are open and promotion begins.
