Befriending Service
Our Befriending Service is here to support people with serious illnesses and their carers.

It’s aim is to:
- reduce loneliness
- build confidence
- support emotional, social and mental well-being
It complements our clinical services and is run by trained volunteers who are managed by our Nursing Service.
The Service is for:
- Adults (aged 18+) with life-limiting illnesses
- Family members or carers (aged 18+) who support someone with a life-limiting illness
Befrienders visit people at home (or in the community) and can help with a variety of tasks. The length of support depends on individual needs and can range from a few weeks to longer periods.
Befrienders can:
- Provide companionship and spend time with patients
- Prepare light meals or drinks during visits
- Help with shopping or run small errands
- Accompany someone to an appointment
- Support people so they can attend social or leisure activities
- Walk dogs
- Stay with patients so carers can take a break
