Bereavement and Family Support
When someone has a serious illness or loses a loved one, our Family Support Service is here to help. We offer a safe, place where people can talk about their feelings and work through their thoughts. Our goal is to help each person find their own way forward in life.
"We built a really good, trustful relationship. They made it so much easier and I can’t thank them enough."

About this service
Our family support team members are fully trained and follow national standards for bereavement care. They also have regular support and training to keep their skills up-to-date. We provide one-to-one support for adults over 18, usually in hour-long sessions usually at our premises in Dalston or at home. For younger people, we can signpost them to other services. We can also help those outside Cumbria find services in their area.
Our support is available to everyone – even if Hospice at Home haven’t been involved in the care. If you or someone you know needs help, please contact us.
We also offer two group sessions:
- Bereavement Together: Last Thursday of every month at Penrith Leisure Centre 1-3pm During National Grief Awareness week in December the team held in Penrith a successful pop up Bereavement café. Following it’s success we are happy to announce the launch of a new group called Bereavement Together that will meet at Penrith Leisure Centre on the last Thursday of every month 1 - 3pm to find out more please use the number below to contact us.
- Patient Support Group: Every two weeks at our Dalston office Please call us for more information.
The team have held a Peer Support Group for over a year. This group is for anyone with a life limiting illness and is currently every other Wednesday afternoon at Dalston. The aim of the group is to bring individuals together and to support each other in a safe place by sharing experiences, information, personal issues, thoughts and struggles.
If you are interested in attending, please contact the team.
