Thinking of Everyone – a message from the Charity’s President, Lady Elizabeth Leeming

Thinking of Everyone

Seeing the images of the empty Lake District in the news is a stark reminder of the strangeness of our current situation.  When the fundraising team asked me to write a note to go out with the latest edition of ‘Contact’, I could never have dreamt how our lives would soon be turned upside down.  What hasn’t changed, though, is the pride we all feel for Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland and the contribution its work makes to our area of Cumbria.  At this time of national crisis, the Charity’s invaluable palliative care has never been more needed.

I’m sure we are all thinking about everyone involved:  staff, volunteers, and those out there in the community, however the Coronavirus pandemic has affected each one of us personally.  For some there is the weight of difficult decision-making, for others sheer hard work, for others loneliness and isolation, and of course some may be facing the illness or loss of loved ones.

The ‘community’ of our Charity is something remarkable.  To look at our Facebook page gives ample evidence of this and I’d like to add my thanks to all those local businesses, groups and individuals who are being so generous and creative with practical help and virtual fundraising ideas.  To have given the staff the Personal Protective Equipment they need is a fantastic achievement – Cumbrians don’t stand still!

I know we’ll all be doing whatever we can to support our Charity at this very challenging time and thank goodness for the technology that is keeping us connected while we see this crisis through – which I know we will.
