Diane’s Story

My Volunteering Journey: Diane Hollyer – Event Volunteer and Health Care Assistant

Introduction
My name is Diane Hollyer, and I have been an Event Volunteer with Hospice at Home since 2016. In addition to my volunteer work, I am also a Health Care Assistant, which gives me a deep appreciation for the incredible care provided by this charity.
Why I Chose to Volunteer
I decided to volunteer because I knew that without fundraising, we wouldn’t be able to provide the essential care that so many families rely on. Hospice at Home is a wonderful local charity, and I wanted to do my part to help ensure that nurses could continue offering their invaluable support to people in need.
What I Enjoy Most
One of the best parts of volunteering has been meeting all the amazing supporters and kind-hearted fellow volunteers. The generosity and warmth I experience every day reaffirm how much people care about the work we do, and it’s truly inspiring to see their passion for this cause.
Personally, I’ve found immense joy in hearing how grateful supporters are for Hospice at Home. Their heartfelt feedback reminds me why this work is so important. Knowing that what we do makes a genuine difference in people’s lives is the most rewarding feeling.
Meaningful Moments
Over the years, I’ve had so many touching conversations with people who share how much Hospice at Home has meant to them. I often hear sentiments like “We couldn’t have coped without Hospice at Home coming in.” One supporter described our nurses as “angels, angels in disguise,” words that beautifully capture their kindness and dedication.
I’ve met families who have received invaluable support, not just for their loved ones but for themselves as well. One person told me, “Not just my husband, but our whole family was supported by the nurses, and we are just so grateful.” Another supporter spoke about how much night nurses meant to them: “It just meant so much—they could look after our loved one, and we could recharge our batteries.”
Every story reinforces the profound impact that Hospice at Home has on families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
Why You Should Volunteer
I absolutely recommend volunteering with Hospice at Home! It’s such a meaningful way to give back to the community and support a cause that truly makes a difference. If you’re thinking about volunteering, my advice is simple: “Volunteer!” You won’t regret it.
Conclusion
Being a volunteer has been an incredible journey—one filled with warmth, gratitude, and a deep connection to an organization that touches so many lives. I am proud to be a part of Hospice at Home, and I hope more people will join in and experience the joy of making a difference
