ITV raises awareness of hospice care funding

20th December 2024: £100 million Capital Funding

We are pleased to share the recent announcement by Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, regarding the allocation of £100 million in capital funding over the next two years. This funding, which is ring-fenced for specific criteria including care at home, represents a significant step forward for the hospice sector.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Hospice UK and all hospice organisations for their relentless lobbying efforts. Their dedication, along with the support from our local MPs, has been instrumental in achieving this milestone.

While this funding does not yet address the need for sustainable financial support (currently, only 15% of our funding comes from the NHS) it is a positive first step. We are hopeful that hospice at home services will be included in the funding allocation fairly. We look forward to learning more in the New Year about how our patients and community can benefit.

ITV raises awareness of hospice care funding

In an emotive piece on ITV news, journalist Daniel Hewitt shone the light on the huge pressure that hospices across the country are facing.

Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland are so grateful to everyone that contributes to the 85% of funding that we are given through charitable donations, fundraising events and challenges.

The recent budget has added an extra £48,000 to our funding needs, added to this is the minimum wage increase, any pay rise, and then coupled with the inflationary costs of 2.3% there are many challenges that we face. If you are able to help us through donations, or donations of time through volunteering, we would be happy to hear from you.
