Racecourse Charity of the Year 2024

Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland partner with Carlisle Racecourse with a massive  £22,380.79 being raised

In 2024 Hospice at Home Carlisle & North Lakeland partnered with Carlisle Racecourse as their Charity of the Year. Over the course of the year representatives from the charity along with volunteers attended race events, hosted their Annual Group Meeting and hosted their first Charity Race Day.

Carlisle Racecourse, one of the fifteen racecourses owned by The Jockey Club, has been a long standing supporter of Hospice at Home for a number of years and had already helped raise over £7000 throughout various events and donations. Last year that supported more than doubled as they welcomed the charity as their charity of the year! To date the Racecourse has helped raise £29,668 and their continued support and contributions will help Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland provide free, essential care and support to local people and families in their own home.

Reflecting back on the year, Kylie Palmer shared her gratitude:
“The team at Carlisle Racecourse have been amazing, in 2023 they joined us for our Summit at Sunset challenge and in 2024 we were delighted to be their charity partner. It was a great opportunity for us to not only raise vital funding but also a chance to raise awareness of the services we provide and how they can be accessed. We have been supported by an army of volunteers who all kindly gifted their time selling sunflowers, meeting race day goers and raising awareness. The kindness and dedication we have seen has been incredible and we are extremely grateful for all who helped reach this incredible amount”

Debbie McKenna, CEO for Hospice at Home explained:

“Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland believe everyone deserves choice, dignity and comfort in their final stages of life. This is enabled through the outstanding care we provide allowing patients to stay in familiar surroundings, with those who matter to them during some of the most challenging times, we have one chance to get this right and promote a legacy of peace and emotional reassurance for those left behind and we are honoured to be able to offer this support, none of this would be possible without our community, over 85% of our funding is raised locally,  without partnership like this we simply wouldn’t be here doing what we do. We are extremely grateful to Carlisle Racecourse, all the local businesses who supported us, our wonderful volunteers and to everyone who made this possible by donating. Together, we can ensure these essential services continue to be available to everyone who needs them”.

Helen Willis, General Manager at Carlisle Racecourse added:

“We were delighted to support Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland throughout 2024 as our Charity Partner of the Year. Through this partnership we were able to provide the charity with a platform to increase awareness of the important work they do as well as the opportunity to raise much needed funds. The team from Hospice at Home Carlisle and North Lakeland were a pleasure to work with and seeing their charity race day come alive after so much hard work and planning was wonderful and so rewarding.”
