Bulletin 16th April (Bulletin No 3) Re : Cornoavirus (Covid-19)

My last bulletin was on the 1st April – it seems such a long time ago and again so much has happened in relation to the Covid-19 virus. So much heartbreak for so many and the lockdown will continue for another three weeks as rightly I believe it should. Two very important things have not changed: one is that we contiue to provide nursing care to patients with palliative and end of life care needs, with the support of the Occupational Therapy and Family Support teams, and the other is that the local community have continued to support us in so many ways.
In my last bulletin I referred to the situation regarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is a major issue as you will be aware from the news. Although challenging I would like to reassure you that we can access supplies for our needs and further supplies are sourced on a regualar basis. Also the local community have continued to support us by delivering what PPE they can to the main office at Dalston. It is one of my priorities to continually monitor the situation to protect our patients, their relatives and importantly our staff.
Also I mentioned that Hospice UK were in negotiations with the government regarding additional funding for Hospices. I am pleased to say to that this has been agreed and we have recently received a sum of money. We greatly appreciate this grant but it does not cover what we would have normally expected to receive in fundrasing. Your continued support is vital.
I am also including in this bulletin some fundraising information from Julie and her team who really appreciate the loyal support given to the team and to Hospice at Home. Keeping in touch and sharing news with our supporters and volunteers is very important and at present social media is an essential tool to share updates. The Hospice at Home Facebook platform is an open page which can be viewed by anyone so you don’t have to be a Facebook user to visit the page. There are some wonderful stories included and to see the support given from our local community and businesses is just amazing. The news section on our website is also updated with information regularly. We also keep in touch with supporters via regular emails: these include information on current news from the Fundraising Department and how funds raised make a difference to local patients, their families and carers, as well as updating supporters on future events, volunteering opportunities and other general news.
