Nursing Live: ‘Your Time to Thrive’
Nursing Live: ‘Your Time to Thrive’

The theme of this year’s Nursing Live conference centred on staff well-being across all roles within healthcare. I attended sessions on building support mechanisms to help individuals meet the unique demands of their positions, a vital skill for everyone, from office cleaner to CEO.
Support for Nurses
One key takeaway was the noticeable lack of support for newly qualified nurses. When I first entered the profession 40 years ago, new nurses received considerable support to build confidence in their skills. Today, it seems that, in some areas, this support has dwindled. Many attendees shared concerns that management supervision now tends to focus on identifying mistakes rather than providing guidance for improvement.
Creating a supportive culture across the entire healthcare team is essential, especially as the NHS faces an exodus of highly skilled, newly qualified nurses, a troubling trend that should not be ignored.
Hospice at Home Support Mechanisms for Staff
Reflecting on Hospice at Home, I’m grateful for the support mechanisms we already have in place for our staff. However, it’s clear that each team member requires a tailored approach, and I’m eager to incorporate new tools to enhance our well-being toolkit. After all, a one-size-fits-all approach rarely suits everyone.
